Problem statement
Create a solution for a user who wants to track his daily hiking experience where he wants to track his metrics on his daily hike and also gain insights on his improvements. His future goal is to better himself through the process and actually go on a himalayan hiking expedition someday. (Avoid graph in visual language)
Solution
Channel or medium to address: mobile app Channel Feature being used: gps metrics when starting a hike User case study: User being addressed: a starter hiker who prefers normal data over graph, and wants to improve himself with daily hiking.
Key pain points to address:
Daily performance
Weekly performance
Monthly performance
View number of Intervals taken on a hike
View duration of intervals taken on a hike
At what duration and distance the interval was taken
Application designed to provide for small and big hikes alike
Additional Features to the app introduced:
Quality of each trek depending on local data
Share hiking data for socials
Suggestions and ‘Did you knows’ to improve the hiking experience
Location fetch so no need for inputing details for each hike
Mobile App
Points are used to denote time as the time varies by the different distance taken, and cannot be assimilated as such. To equate semantics we divide distance by time and denote by the points scored.
The color of the performance indicator is set to blue (neutral) as both positive and negative data can mean improvement. Also the intention to depend on performance metrics is unwanted as the distance travelled or the time taken can depend on terrain to terrain (snowy, steep) and cannot be equated together.
And a dark mode was added to help the user have an immersive experience depending on his outdoor daylight.
